i got an old canon 55mm film camera. It has a detachable lens. I am looklong into buying a new SLR camera and i want to use that lens. But i don't know the specs of it. It is about 1 ft long when fully retrachted and is black with one red ring. It has a rubber grip, the rest is plastic. Please help
well i think it is a vivitar lens, and yes it is 35mm, thank you for correcting me.
ok the real specs, a T50 50mm canon, a vivitar 70-105mm lens. That is all i can find
it dose have a "FD" on it, will there be any camera that will fit this lens?

First you have to determine if your lens is part of the Canon EOS system. Those lenses have either a EF or EF-S near where Canon is engraved on the lens.
If it is part of the older Canon cameras systems made before about 1985 and/or has a FD on it, then it will not fit or work with any of the new Canon EOS cameras ... 35 mm or Digital
Knowing the focal length of the lens and the maximum aperture could help us pin it down.
BTW your old Canon camera is a 35 mm, not 55 mm. Maybe what you have is a 55 mm lens on it or a 55 mm filter? The 55 mm lens is the ultra fast f/1.2 lens
NOTE:
You can find Canon AE-1 cameras that will use those lenses. Just look on craigslist in a city near you.

camera lens problem?

I have Sigma 28-135mm aspherical lens and canon rebel xsi. There is an error between lens and camera. It tells me " err 01 ,communications between the camera and lens is faulty. clean the lens contacts." I cleaned the metal connections with alcohol and still nothing. Any suggestions?

This seems to be an ongoing problem with older Sigma lenses when a Canon body has had its firmware updated.
The only way I have heard of to remedy this problem is to send the Sigma lens into Sigma and have it updated. Unfortunately, any savings you may have enjoyed when you first bought the lens (vs a Canon lens) will be lost when you pay Sigma to update your lens so it will work on your Canon camera.
Since each Canon/Sigma issue differs from lens to lens, I suggest you contact Canon first to see what their data base revels.
Most of the problems I have hear about have to do with the Canon 40D after a firmware update. When this has occurred, the Sigma lens just will not auto-focus until Sigma does some black magic to their lens(es)
