Hey guys, I was thinking about getting a Nikon D3100 or a Nikon D5100 sometime this year, I want to ask if the 18-200mm VR DX is better than the 18-55mm VR lens that comes with the camera. Which lens among the two (you could also mention other kinds of lenses you recommend) that is a great all round lens for everyday use?
Many people also said that the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX is a must-have lens, is it necessary to have it or just have one lens in your set?
This would be my first Nikon DSLR and actually have less experience on this kind of camera so it would be much appreciated if you give more detail about the lenses.

The 18-200mm VR is a very versatile lens, it basically combines the 18-55mm with the 55-200mm lens. It's nearly twice as expensive as these two lenses separately though, but it saves you from lots of lens swaps. The 18-105mm VR is a viable alternative unless you intend to shoot distant subjects a lot.
I disagree about the 35mm/1.8 being mandatory. While it certainly has its uses (group shots, indoor, street life) i find it to be as much as a compromise on focal length as a standard zoom is on image quality/speed. To me it's too long for most landscape applications, and too short for portraits. I prefer a 50mm/1.8 over it any day, as that one still is too long for landscapes, but it's perfect for portraits and very nice for other shallow depth of field work.
But as always the lens purchases should be driven by your own needs, not by what lenses other people use. Stick to a 18-105mm or 18-200mm lens at first and then see where you find that one lacking. Then buy a second lens to fix that lack.
