I have a EOS 3000N film camera, and I don't want to buy a new camera so I decided to buy a new lens, would a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM work with my camera?
Answer
Any EF lens will work with your fine 35 mm Canon EOS camera.
The 85 mm is just perfect for shooting portraits with your camera
Just make sure you do NOT attempt to use a Canon EF-S lens on your camera. It will damage the mirror of the camera and the mirror will damage the rear element of the lens

What is the best canon camera lens to use when in New York?
Hiya,
I'm going to New York in early June (for a week) and am going to take my DSLR with me. I only have one lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6) which is good, but isn't great for zoom.
I'm just wondering what lens people would recommend that obviously has a great zoom, isn't too heavy (as I will be carrying it around most days) but can also take good photos of the skyline. etc etc
I have found a camera place that hire out lenses for $25 a weekend so am hoping to do that.
Thanks.
Answer
I took my standard lens: canon 18-55mm and my canon 70-300mm zoom. Did just fine. Remember your camera has a 1.6 adjustment factor, so multiply all of the above 'mm' numbers by 1.6 to determine you effective focal length.
